On this page, you will find information on the environment, health and safety policy of Bühler Group. The EHS policies describe the binding goals and obligations of Bühler Group in the area of environmental and occupational health and safety. Our aim

Health and Safety

Our aim is to prevent accidents and work-related illnesses at our locations, installation and service projects, during travels and at our customers' locations. We commit ourselves to comply with all legal occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements. In order to achieve these goals we have introduced an OHS management system.

Bühler does not delegate responsibility for OHS to safety officers but requires that occupational health and safety is an integral part of all business activities. For this reason, Bühler managers at all levels and all workers are responsible for OHS as part of their business activities independent where is their workplace.

Bühler 10 lifesaving rules

No. 1

Report unsafe situations

Never accept unsafe conditions, even if it is not your direct responsibility.
Always speak up to report unsafe acts or conditions when you see them.
Always advise other people when they put themselves in an unsafe situation or perform an unsafe action.
Always report a near miss as if it was an accident. Today’s near miss could be tomorrow's accident.

No. 2

Prepare your job task

Never trust the first impression of any equipment. Always check that all safety devices are intact.
Always check before starting work to determine whether there are any risks and whether you could be injured.
Always carry out a dynamic risk assessment
even if the job is basically routine. Routine and compliancy can be deadly.

No. 3

Stop the job

Never think this one time it will work out. “It will be ok, just this once.”
Always stop your work if the working environment could be deemed unsafe for you.
Always ensure a safe situation before you start working again.
Always remember SLAM = Stop – Look – Assess – Manage.

No. 4

Working at height

Never walk over floor coverings, as these may not be secured or strong enough.
Always protect against falls and use protective equipment when working at height.
Always look for a collective protection solution as a safer solution.

No. 5

Lock out / tag out (LOTO)

Never assume electrical equipment is isolated.
Always test (try out – test for dead) before touching any approved equipment.
Always execute the LOTO process and ensure all residual energies are released.
Always check LOTO after breaks or when you have been away from the equipment.

No. 6

Lifting acts

Never place yourself under suspended loads or in dangerous situation.
Never forget to fence off the lifting area.
Always carry out safe lifting operations.
Always check the lifting equipment for possible damage or faults.

No. 7

Road safety

Never drive under the influence of alcohol or medication.
Never use your cell phone while driving.
Always use a hands-free integrated system.
Always ensure you and your passengers wear a seat belt.
Always feel fit to drive and take your breaks.

No. 8

Vehicle movement

Never drive a vehicle if you are not trained, authorized, or have a license to operate it.
Always keep sufficient distance from vehicles and never come into their range of motion.

No. 9

Safe behavior

Never work under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or if you have taken medication that affects your consciousness.
Never use damaged personal protective equipment (PPE).
Always inspect your PPE before use.
Always wear the necessary PPE for the task, even if you just need it for a short time.

Manager behavior

Never accept unsafe conditions for you or your colleagues.
Always “walk the talk” and be a role model.
Always take five minutes when starting your meetings and walks to discuss health and safety ensuring it is at the forefront of everything we do.

Our aim

Environment

Externally, we commit to decrease waste, water and energy in our customer’s value chain by 50% by 2025.

Internally, we will reduce emissions along the 1.5 degree pathway and neutralize remaining emissions from 2030 onwards in our own MLS operations.
